Michael Moorehead is the actor who appeared as a regular background sciences ensign throughout the last five seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He also played several other background parts and worked as stand-in for actor Clifton Jones on the fourth season episode "Redemption". He was scheduled to appear in civilian outfit in Ten Forward in the episode "Ensign Ro", in corridor scenes in the episode "The Perfect Mate", and in bridge scenes in "I Borg" but was not part of the final episodes. Moorehead worked as main stand-in for guest actor Ron Canada on the fifth season episode "The Masterpiece Society" in 1991.

He appeared as a City Hall press conference reporter in the comedy The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988, with Ricardo Montalban, Raye Birk, Tiny Ron, Nicholas Worth, Lawrence Tierney, Brett Bartlett, Rick Seaman, Mark Holton, Jim Painter, John Copage, Eddie Hice, Robert Herron, Larry Robb, Anthony Giger, Gene Poe, George Sasaki, Joel Schultz, Michael Wilkinson, Faith Burton, Leslie Hoffman, John Blower, Joey Banks, Debra Dilley, Bruce Dobos, Mike Paciorek, Tom Morga, Randy James, Len Felber, Allan Graf, Bruce Barbour, Nick Dimitri, Terry Jackson, Gene LeBell, Carey Loftin, Jimmy Ortega, Mary Peters, Rick Sawaya, Brian J. Williams, and Harry Wowchuck).

Moorehead appeared as a car show patron in the Cheers episode "Rebecca Redux" (1990, with Kirstie Alley, Kelsey Grammer, Lee Allen, Curt Truman, Don Bennett, Renna Bogdanowicz, S. Reed, Ivonne Perez, Walter Smith, Mark Watson, and Mikki Val) and as a bar patron in the Cheers episode "The Days of Wine and Neuroses" (1990, with Kirstie Alley, Kelsey Grammer, Bebe Neuwirth, Paul Willson, James Davison, Joe Baumann, Keith Rayve, Denise Lynne Roberts, Sherry O'Keefe, Elliot Durant III, Lee Allen, and Nyra Crenshaw). In 1993 he appeared as a background actor in the television drama The Switch, along with James Harper and Bobby Burns. In the late 1990s, he suffered from severe back problems.
