Michael "Mike" McMahan is a writer and author. A long-time Star Trek fan, McMahan wrote the Star Trek: Short Treks episode "The Escape Artist". [1] He is the head writer, creator, and an executive producer of Star Trek: Lower Decks, an animated half-hour comedy series on Paramount+. He is credited as the writer of the opening episode "Second Contact", the first season finale "No Small Parts", the second season premiere "Strange Energies", and the second season finale "First First Contact".

McMahan is also the creator and maintainer of the @TNG_S8 Twitter account, which provides satirical outlines of episodes in a fictitious eighth season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. This work led to the commissioning of the reference book Star Trek: The Next Generation - Warped, which turned those outlines into a fully-fledged "episode guide".

McMahan has worked on a number of animated series, including South Park, Drawn Together, Out There, Axe Cop, and Rick and Morty.
