Miko Mayama (born 15 August 1939; age 85) is the actress who played Tamura in the Star Trek: The Original Series first season episode "A Taste of Armageddon". She filmed her scenes between Tuesday 27 December 1966 and Tuesday 3 January 1967 at Desilu Stage 9 and Stage 10.

Biography[]

Mayama was born and grew up in Japan where she was part of a Kabuki acting group. She met actor Burt Reynolds while he was filming a movie there. Reynolds brought her to the United States and the couple were in a relationship for three years. She was later married to Martin Erlichman for a short time, and still retains his last name. [1]

Mayama's television and movie career started in the mid-1960s, lasted until the late 1970s, and included a little over twenty roles. Her earliest film roles were uncredited parts in Walk, Don't Run (1966, featuring Samantha Eggar and Original Series star George Takei) and The War Wagon (1967, starring Robert Walker and Valora Noland). These were followed with supporting roles in Impasse (1969, co-starring Jeff Corey), The Hawaiians (1970, with James Gregory and Keye Luke), and That Man Bolt (1973, starring Fred Williamson).

Besides Star Trek, other TV shows on which she appeared include I Spy, It Takes a Thief (with Malachi Throne), The Flying Nun (in an episode with Gregory Sierra), The Beverly Hillbillies, Ironside, Medical Center (with Glenn Corbett), Hawaii Five-O, Kojak, and Mannix (with Clyde Kusatsu and Bill Zuckert). She was also a regular on the NBC series Hey, Landlord, which debuted the same week as Star Trek but lasted only one season. Mayama was last seen in a 1979 episode of M*A*S*H, with David Ogden Stiers.
