The mindscape was a computer program created by accomplished Betazoid neuroscientist Doctor Marina Derex in the mid-2370s. Equipped with an AI interface, the mindscape would take on the form of whatever the user's neural activity indicated was the most important place in the user's life while the AI would take on the form of the person most important to the user. The transmitter took on the form of a metal card in the original manuscript of Labyrinths of the Mind and apparently couldn't manage multiple connections. It would connect with the frontal lobe of the user's brain via a nucleonic beam and removing it could be fatal. According to the AI, if the user failed the test within, their brain functions would shut down with the program as a security precaution, killing them. Derex's intention was to test if the seeker could be trusted with the Progenitors' power by testing if they could be honest with themselves about their faults and potential vulnerabilities. In 3191, Captain Michael Burnham inadvertently activated the mindscape while searching for the last clue. The mindscape took on the form of the Eternal Gallery and Archive while the AI took on the form of Cleveland Booker. Burnham's attempts to understand the mindscape and pass the test were at first unsuccessful, but after Burnham opened up to him about her fears, she finally passed the AI's test. After telling Burnham where to find the last piece of the map and a secret that she would need to know when Burnham arrived at her final destination, the AI released Burnham from the mindscape.
