A modulating plasma pulse was a type of powerful plasma discharge that could be fired from a Na'kuhl plasma rifle. It manifested as a beam or blast of energy.
In 1944 of an alternate timeline created by multiple temporal incursions by various factions in the Temporal Cold War, Vosk, the Na'kuhl leader, offered to supply the the German generalmajor with these weapons, which he claimed produced a modulating plasma pulse equivalent to three 88-millimeter shells and was capable of destroying a Panzer IV tank. (ENT: "Storm Front")
The "88-millimeter" Vosk mentions, referred to the famed German 8.8 cm anti-aircraft gun. During the early stages of World War II, German General Erwin Rommel almost by accident discovered, that the gun turned out to be a formidable anti-tank weapon as well, and the gun served to great effect in both roles for the remainder of the war. From 1942 onward, the gun was mounted on German tanks as well, attaining a fearsome reputation as an Allied tank killer, as very few Allied tanks were capable of surviving direct hits at close range save for the Soviet IS series.
