(written from a Production point of view)
Monopoly is a popular "property trading" board game produced by Parker Brothers (now a subsidiary of Hasbro). The game's basic object is to acquire the most money and properties, often bankrupting your opponents in the process.
Often – either itself or through licensees – special "themed" versions of the game are produced for different franchises, include that of Star Wars. As of 2012, board game company USAopoly has produced four such games for the Star Trek franchise:
- Star Trek: The Next Generation Collector's Edition Monopoly (1998)
- Star Trek Limited Edition Monopoly (2000)
- Star Trek Continuum Edition Monopoly (2009)
- Star Trek Klingon Edition Monopoly (2011)
In 1999, a Star Trek: The Next Generation Monopoly with the autographs of all TNG main cast members was auctioned off on the Galaxy Ball, a charity event held for the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles. The winner paid US$250.00 for the board game. The auction was presented by several cast members of Star Trek: Voyager, including Kate Mulgrew, Robert Beltran, Tim Russ, Robert Duncan McNeill, and Ethan Phillips.
