In 2257, after Section 31 agent Philippa Georgiou extracted Ash Tyler and the child of Chancellor of the Klingon High Council L'Rell from Qo'noS, the ship was used to deliver the child to the monastery on the planet Boreth. (DIS: "Point of Light")
Later that year, this ship assisted the USS Discovery from slipping into and being destroyed by the mycelial network. Afterward, an agreement was reached between Captain Christopher Pike of the Discovery and Leland on this ship, wherein they agreed to cooperate on the search for Lieutenant Spock and to solve the mystery of the red signals. (DIS: "Saints of Imperfection")
After Michael Burnham found Spock on Vulcan, she rendezvoused with NCIA-93. The two later escaped, with assistance from Philippa Georgiou, and made their way to Talos IV. NCIA-93 eventually caught up to Discovery in orbit of Talos IV, where they got into a standoff over who would transport Burnham and Spock aboard. Although NCIA-93 apparently succeeded, they were actually fooled by an illusion that the Talosians generated for Burnham and Spock, allowing the two to escape aboard a shuttle to Discovery instead and get away. (DIS: "Light and Shadows", "If Memory Serves").
Soon after, NCIA-93 and Discovery headed to Essof IV on a mission to capture the Red Angel. Following an altercation on the surface between Georgiou and Leland (under the influence of Control), NCIA-93 warped away before Discovery could stop it after beaming Leland onboard moments before the Discovery could destroy the facility. Having been onboard himself at the time, Tyler managed to flee aboard an escape pod and he was picked up by Discovery. (DIS: "The Red Angel", "Perpetual Infinity")
The bridge of the NCIA-93 is a heavy redress of the USS Shenzhou bridge.
The computer systems aboard the ship appear to be different from those on Shenzhou and Discovery, and are visually similar to LCARS.
