The NCIA-93 type was a Federation starship class used by the intelligence division Section 31 in the 2250s.

the NCIA-93 type was slightly smaller than a Crossfield-class starship, and was constructed with a darker hull color than other Federation vessels of the era. This ship had the unique ability to streamline its silhouette with the use of retractable nacelle pylons, while the ship was running in "dark mode". [1]

For covert operations, these ships had the capability to disguise itself as another object, such as another ship or even an asteroid.

Ships of this class were equipped with tractor rigs, which were able to boost the strength of the tractor beam system.

Internally, the NCIA-93 type featured a two-story bridge and a drab, minimalistic overall design. (DIS: "Point of Light", "Saints of Imperfection")

At least three ships of this class were in service at one time. (DIS: "Light and Shadows")

Background information

This ship is the second Section 31 starship class to appear on screen, following the Dreadnought-class in Star Trek Into Darkness.

The camouflage system is similar to a feature of a Romulan drone ship fielded shortly before the Earth-Romulan War. That ship used multispectral emitters to achieve the effect.

The computer systems aboard the ship appear to be different from those on USS Shenzhou and USS Discovery, and are visually similar to LCARS.
