National Geographic is a magazine, book, internet, and media company specializing in geography, history, nature, science, and world culture that in 2016 published the reference book Star Trek: The Official Guide to Our Universe.
Founded in 1888 as the magazine publication of the nonprofit scientific and educational organization National Geographic Society, over the years it grew to include book and map publishing as well as, in partnership with 21st Century Fox, a cable television network. In 2015, Fox and National Geographic Society formed the joint venture National Geographic Partners to oversee the Society’s for-profit commercial media activities. [1] In 2019, Disney acquired Fox [2] and subsequently organized National Geographic's publishing operations into the parts of the Disney company already involved in publishing. [3]
