The navigation console was a console located on the bridge of a starship. The console contained the flight control interface, which was designed to monitor and project a vessel's course and velocity. The console also included sensors to determine the position, speed, and trajectory of other objects and ships.
On United Earth Starfleet vessels in the 2150s, such as Enterprise NX-01, the helm and navigation consoles were combined into a single station. (Star Trek: Enterprise)
The helm and navigation were separate consoles on the USS Franklin in 2164. (Star Trek Beyond)
In the 2250s and 2260s, the navigation console was separate from the helm. In addition to coordinating course changes, the navigation console was also designed to allow crewmen to manage weapons firing. (TOS: "The Corbomite Maneuver", "Obsession", "Elaan of Troyius") By 2266, the function of the navigational console was taken over by the helm. (TOS: "Balance of Terror")
By 2269, the console was equipped with a static shield. (TAS: "Beyond the Farthest Star")
Klingon ships in the 2270s, such as the IKS Amar, also split the duties of navigator and helmsman, seating them at two different consoles. (Star Trek: The Motion Picture)
By the 24th century, the navigation console was once again merged with the helm. (Star Trek: The Next Generation; Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; Star Trek: Voyager)
The 29th century Wells-class USS Relativity was a timeship which utilized a TCARS temporal navigation console. (VOY: "Relativity")
