The Constitution III class, also known as the Neo-Constitution class, was a Federation starship that served as an exploration vessel and was operated by Starfleet during the 24th and 25th centuries. (PIC: "The Next Generation"; USS Titan-A dedication plaque)

History[]

The Constitution III-class ship was designed and built by Starfleet in the late 24th century, being a descendant to the Constitution II-class. The USS Titan-A had already received an NCC commission and had already undergone a refit by the early 2400s. (PIC: "The Next Generation")

In 2402, the USS Titan-A was rechristened the USS Enterprise-G in honor of the command crew of the USS Enterprise-D who had stopped the Borg takeover during the Frontier Day ceremony. (PIC: "Vox", "The Last Generation")

Technical data[]

Profile of class

The Constitution III-class starship followed the traditional saucer section-engineering section-warp nacelle layout common to most Starfleet vessels.

The class had at least three shuttlebays. Shuttlebay 3 was located on the aft end of the secondary hull. (PIC: "The Next Generation")

Tactical systems[]

The Constitution III class was equipped with both deflector shields and metaphasic shields. It was armed with phaser arrays and torpedo launchers. (PIC: "The Next Generation", "Seventeen Seconds")

Transporter systems[]

Extravehicular transporter to and from the ship could be accomplished by a number of transporter systems besides the airlocks, which allowed personnel or equipment to be transported over large ranges. (PIC: "Disengage")

Interior design[]

Main bridge[]

USS Titan-A bridge

The main bridge

The main bridge was located on Deck 1, and maintained a traditional layout, with the helm and operations stations at the front of the ship, and the captain's chair in the middle. Various stations were placed on the perimeter of the bridge, including tactical, engineering, and communications. (PIC: "The Next Generation") The bridge was also equipped with a large evacuation hatch behind the main viewscreen, for emergency use, which opened directly into open space. (PIC: "Surrender")

The set for the Titan's bridge was two and a half times the size of the bridge on the Enterprise-D in Star Trek: The Next Generation. (TRR: "Disengage")

Battle bridge[]

The Constitution III class was equipped with a battle bridge. (PIC: "No Win Scenario")

The existence of the battle bridge aboard this class of ship was proven by a graphic seen in the Titan conference room. The graphic is a copy of the sensor tie-ins to bridge science stations flow chart which first appeared on page 40 in the Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual. [1]
The battle bridge might be the same as the auxiliary bridge that was listed in a deck chart of the Titan made by Geoffrey Mandel. If so, there would be two battle bridges, with one being on deck 10 and another on deck 22. [2]

Med bay[]

The medical facility was known as the "med bay" and was located within the saucer section of the ship. The med bay was characterized by a blue scheme. (PIC: "Disengage", "Seventeen Seconds", "No Win Scenario")

Observation lounge[]

The observation lounge was located directly rear of the main bridge. The room was usually used as a conference room for the vessel's senior staff. A conference table with seating for seven people was the main feature of the room, with two LCARS screen located throughout the room. (PIC: "The Next Generation", "Disengage")

Crew quarters[]

The crew quarters were similar to those seen on a refit Constitution-class in the 2290s. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country; PIC: "The Next Generation")

Corridors[]

Corridors on the Constitution III-class were wider than previous generations and were similar to those seen on the Sagan-class. The space easily enabled the ship's crew to get where they were going without feeling crowded or bumping into each other. These were also lined with darker paneling similar to the main bridge. Background information[]

According to the Star Trek: Picard Logs, Neo-Constitution was a slang term for the Constitution III-class. It was primarily an exploratory vessel, "designed to cater to a close support envelope at sublight speeds, namely in and around densely populated solar systems, as witnessed by its overpowered impulse engines." [3]

The class was designed by Star Trek veteran Doug Drexler and Bill Krause, the latter under his online persona "admiralbuck". [4] Started in June 2021, the class was in effect a refinement of Krause's own six-years-old fan-created Shangri-La-class (β) design. [5]

According to Dave Blass, the class is 1839 feet (560.5 meters) in length. [6]

According to Dave Blass, the Constitution III class is a result of the destruction of the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, resulting in its spaceframe incorporated reused and recycled components (instead of replicating) from the previous Luna-class, such as the nacelle shield mechanism and computer systems done at the Fleet Yards. [7]

Apocrypha[]

The Constitution III-class appears in Star Trek Online as a prize in the Infinity R&D and Duty Officer Promotion Packs under the name "Constitution III Miracle Worker Cruiser".
