For the PIC episode of the same name, please see "Nepenthe".

Nepenthe was an inhabited planet. It was orbited by three moons and was located a few days' travel from the Artifact at maximum warp for a Kaplan F17 Speed Freighter.

The soil on Nepenthe possessed regenerative properties, which promoted plant growth and healing. The planet's surface featured vast forests, large rock arches, and pristine bodies of water. Local fauna included bunnicorns, birds such as the Nepenthian red-winged banshee, and insects. (PIC: "Nepenthe")

Due to the planet's regenerative powers, William T. Riker and Deanna Troi settled on Nepenthe after their son Thad was diagnosed with mendaxic neurosclerosis. They continued living on the planet after Thad's death. The Troi-Rikers installed an extensive security system around their house with shields and sensors to fend off the Kzinti, who were active in the region.

Pursued by Romulans in 2399, Jean-Luc Picard and Soji Asha used the spatial trajector in the queencell of the Artifact to escape to Nepenthe. Upon their arrival, Picard and Soji met Kestra Troi-Riker, who showed them to her parents' house. A few days later, La Sirena retrieved Picard and Soji from the planet. In 2399, the closest Federation starbase to Nepenthe was Deep Space 12. (PIC: "Broken Pieces")

While they were held captive on the Shrike in 2401, Riker and Troi discussed Nepenthe and found that neither of them liked living on the planet. In particular, they disliked the architecture of their house, the noise of the birds, and their isolation from other people. (PIC: "Surrender")
