The New World was a name given by Europeans to the Western Hemisphere – the continents of North and South America – in the 16th century.

When the Leonardo da Vinci hologram was stolen from the USS Voyager in 2374 and transported to the commerce planet, the program reasoned with his early 16th century knowledge, that he had been abducted by Spanish sailors in Florence, delivered to a ship in the port of Genoa and delivered to the New World. After being returned to the Voyager, da Vinci wrote a letter to the King of France telling him of his adventures in the New World. (VOY: "Concerning Flight")
