A newspaper was a form of periodical utilized to inform and entertain readers about news and events.

Starfleet Academy had its own student-run newspaper, of which Harry Kim was once an editor. (VOY: "Investigations").

Nog and Vic Fontaine read a newspaper in 2375. Nog read the Business section, while Vic read the Sports section. (DS9: "It's Only a Paper Moon")

Newspapers were distributed to readers in several ways, such as from street vendors and unmanned dispensers which sold them. (DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars", TNG: "The Big Goodbye", Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
