"Night Bird" was a jazz song that William Riker enjoyed playing and listening to.

In 2369, he had been practicing it on his trombone for ten years. Commander Riker, who was normally a very skilled musician, always had dificulty with a solo part in the piece. It was for this reason that Counselor Troi requested the song during a jazz concert, but Riker was "saved" by a call from the bridge. (TNG: "Second Chances")

In 2381, Riker (now a captain) asked the computer of the USS Titan to play "Night Bird" when he began to bond with William Boimler. (LD: "Kayshon, His Eyes Open")
