The Gilman Fountain at Occidental College

Occidental College was used as a filming location for the production of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock in 1983. The Gilman Fountain at the entrance stood in as the fountain at the landing place on the planet Vulcan during the landing of the Klingon Bird-of-Prey. Matte paintings were used to hide the buildings. Kenneth Ralston related, "A certain amount of the layout of the place lent itself to the look." (Cinefex, No. 18, p. 67)

The cast and crew of Star Trek III thoroughly enjoyed filming at Occidental College, the only filming location in the movie. Associate producer Ralph Winter reflected, "You know, that was a big deal for us. We were landlocked, we were in soundstages the whole time. To go outside was like: Wow! This is really a big movie!" ("Captain's Log", Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (Blu-ray)/(Special Edition) DVD)

Occidental College is located at 1600 Campus Road at Alumni Avenue, Eagle Rock, City of Los Angeles, California and was also used as a filming location for projects such as Beverly Hills, 90210, Sneakers (1992), Clueless (1995), Jurassic Park III (2001), Made of Honor (2008), [1] NCIS, Eli Stone, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Arrested Development, Private Practice, and Rizzoli & Isles.
