Old-style measurements were the standard units of measure used during Earth's 19th and 20th centuries and were generally recognized as being obsolete.

When the Excalbian who appeared as Abraham Lincoln first contacted the USS Enterprise in 2269, he asked Captain James T. Kirk if they still measured time in minutes. Kirk assured him that they could convert to it.

Later, while speaking in terms familiar to "Lincoln", Spock referenced the altitude of the USS Enterprise as it was in orbit above Excalbia. He qualified the measurements he spoke of – 643 miles, 2,021 feet, and 2.04 inches – to be "using your old-style measurements." (TOS: "The Savage Curtain")

Contrary to Spock's and Kirk's statements, the usage of the units miles, feet, and minutes were used rather frequently throughout Star Trek: The Original Series – indeed, many times by both characters.

When Amelia Earhart toured USS Voyager in 2372, while visiting the bridge, she asked Tom Paris how fast the ship could go. Paris replied, "Warp 9.9. In your terms, that's about 4 billion miles a second." (VOY: "The 37's")
