On Location with the Kazons is a 5-minute special released on the VOY Season 1 DVD.
In this short subject, Supervising Producer David Livingston and Director Winrich Kolbe are interviewed on set on 28 September 1994 while filming location scenes at the El Mirage Dry Lake Bed for the Star Trek: Voyager pilot episode "Caretaker".
While the captures are giving the 29 September 1994 as interview date, filming on this location took place on 27 September 1994 and 28 September 1994. A clapboard shown in the special confirms the 28 September 1994 as interview date.
Production Designer Richard James suggested this location to Kolbe and showed him the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode which was previously filmed on this location – "Final Mission".
This short gives an insight in filming the scenes depicting the Kazon-Ogla camp on Ocampa and includes several scenes from "Caretaker".
