Background information[]
- The story for this issue (and the next issue) is an adaptation of the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "Operation -- Annihilate!".
- The opening flashback is set after young James T. Kirk crashed the Corvette, and acknowledges the deleted scene set beforehand. The owner of the Corvette, referred to in Star Trek's credits as Kirk's stepfather, has reverted to being Winona Kirk's brother Frank. Kirk's brother George is stated as living with his grandfather.
- Winona has black hair.
- A special contest was run by the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF) called "Be A Redshirt". This contest had the prizewinner and their local retailer appearing as redshirts on a special cover done by The Sharp Brothers. It was limited to 300 copies, 100 for the winner, 100 for the retailer, and 100 for the CBLDF.
