Ophiucus III was the inhabited Class M third planet of the Ophiucus system. Located in the Beta Quadrant, this planet was approximately 19 light years from Sol.

History[]

In the mid-2260s, it was a frontier planet.

In 2266, there was an Earth colony on Ophiucus. Women were scarce enough at this colony that intergalactic rogue Harcourt Mudd saw an opportunity in bringing them in from other worlds. (TOS: "Mudd's Women"; TAS: "Mudd's Passion")

In 2328, it was the point of embarkation for passengers traveling to Organia via commercial transport. Keven Scotti, Michael J. Lim, and Zoey Pentacoff traveled there on the SS Kogin. (TNG-R: "Inheritance", okudagram)

Appendices[]

Background information[]

This planet's quadrant of origin was inferred based on the position of its star system as seen in the star chart appearing in the Star Trek: Discovery episode "An Obol for Charon".

In the final draft script of "Mudd's Women", references to this planet in the final version of that episode were instead to Ophiucus VI.

The Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 2, p. 108 and StarTrek.com classified Ophiucus III as a class M planet. (The authors believed it was Ophiucus III which was mentioned in "Mudd's Women", not Ophiucus VI.) [1](X)

The Star Trek: Star Charts ("United Federation of Planets I") listed Ophiucus III as a Federation member in 2378.

The current location of Ophiucus III in the Beta Quadrant was based on the most recent star charts seen in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Section 31.
