An osteotomy was a surgical procedure in which a bone was cut in order to change its alignment, or shorten it.
Hirogen hunters removed the skeletal structure of their prey by way of an osteotomy. Seven of Nine remembered this procedure when she saw a member of Species 5174 who had been thusly operated on. (VOY: "Hunters")
