Paul Robert Coyle is a freelance writer who was involved in the writing of three Star Trek episodes, two of which were produced. In 1973, Coyle wrote a first draft script of "Point of Extinction", an episode which was submitted but never developed for Star Trek: The Animated Series. Years thereafter, he did uncredited script rewrites on a number of Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes. He wrote the story and co-wrote the teleplay (with Michael Piller) of the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine second season episode "Whispers". He later pitched the story concept for the Star Trek: Voyager first season episode "State of Flux". He talks about writing "Whispers" in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, pp. 117-118.

Coyle also wrote episodes of The Streets of San Francisco, Barnaby Jones, CHiPs, Jake and the Fatman, Superboy (which starred Salome Jens), Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess.
