The Cleveland Indians were known for their lack of pitching talent. In 2364, when Data told the news vendor in the Dixon Hill holonovel that the New York Yankees' 56 game winning streak would be snapped by two pitchers from the Indians, the man called Data "nuts". (TNG: "The Big Goodbye")

In 2371, Benjamin Sisko asked Kasidy Yates if the Pike City Pioneers could use a right-handed pitcher. (DS9: "Family Business")
