In the final revised draft of the script for TOS: "The Conscience of the King", a cup which Lieutenant Riley drinks milk out of in that episode was initially described as "a plastic container", but a later stage direction referred to it as a "milk glass". In the final version of the episode, the cup shatters off-screen with a sound effect suggesting it's not plastic but glass.

In 2365, Doctor Katherine Pulaski suggested a splint could be made of two flat pieces of wood or plastic with a bandage to secure them to a fractured limb to immobilize it. (TNG: "Contagion")
