While observing the Akaali homeworld, Trip Tucker expressed doubt at T'Pol's suggestion that the neutrino emissions planetside were coming from an antimatter reactor by saying that they didn't even have indoor plumbing. In September 2152, Malcolm Reed jokingly said he overestimated Charles Tucker III's engineers' ability of indoor plumbing, after complaining of the catwalk's lack of a shower. (ENT: "The Catwalk")

In 2285, after messing with the USS Excelsior's transwarp computer, Montgomery Scott remarked on the ease of sabotaging the complicated system, noting, "The more they over-think the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain." (Star Trek III: The Search for Spock)
