A pocket was a container sewn into an item of clothing to allow the wearer to carry small items without using their hands or a separate bag. Sometimes they could be closed using zippers.
The song "Ring Around the Rosie" mentioned a "pocket full of posies". (TOS: "And the Children Shall Lead")
Pockets were sometimes used to carry money. In his song "We Trying to Stay Alive", Wyclef Jean asked that any listeners with more than a dollar in their pockets put their hands up.
