The Polsa Rosa Ranch is a filming location in Acton, California which was used during the production of the Star Trek: Enterprise first season episode "Terra Nova". The ranch is located at 5726 Soledad Canyon Rd, Acton, California 93510, USA. [1] [2]
The Polsa Rosa Ranch has served as filming location for movies, television, and other productions since the early 1970s. [3] The "ghost town" set of the ranch was prominently featured in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. first season episode "The Magical Place" (2014, with Cullen Douglas and Ron Glass) and in the Westworld first season episode "Chestnut" (2016, with Clifton Collins, Jr., Josh Clark, and Granville Ames, and executive produced by J.J. Abrams). [4]
The water tank of the movie ranch was used for underwater scenes of Titanic (1997, with David Warner, Victor Garber, Nicholas Cascone, Michael Ensign, Mark Lindsay Chapman, Jenette Goldstein, Mark Rafael Truitt, Barry Dennen, Tricia O'Neil, Shay Duffin, Greg Ellis, and Johnny Martin). [5] During the production of the Western remake of The Lone Ranger in September 2012, a water tank cleaner drowned on set while preparing the tank. [6] [7]
On 10 February 2013, a helicopter crashed on the area of the Polsa Rosa Ranch while filming for the Discovery Channel reality show The Amazing Race. All three men – helicopter pilot David Gibbs, cameraman Darren at the Internet Movie Database, and cast member Michael Donatelli – died. [8]

"Terra Nova" had one day of location filming, Monday 13 August 2001. Locations at the Polsa Rosa Ranch were used to portray the surface of the planet Terra Nova. The abandoned colony, the clearing, the forest, the entrance of the cave, and the pursuit of the first Novan encountered were filmed on location. Also, a prop Shuttlepod 1 was built on location. For these scenes the "Jungle Area 1 & 2" and "Forest" sets were used.
Besides Scott Bakula, Jolene Blalock, Dominic Keating, Anthony Montgomery, and John Billingsley, background actors Dieter Hornemann and Redondo Philip as well as stand-ins David Keith Anderson, Richard Sarstedt, Simone Montanti, Evan English, and Pablo Soriano were on set. Also working was Stunt Coordinator Vince Deadrick, Jr. who coordinated the stunt work of Steve Blalock and Kiante Elam.
According to the call sheet, crew call was at 7:00 am and shooting call at 7:30 am. While all cast and crew members had to report to location, Jolene Blalock was picked up at home at 5:15 am. Also noted on the call sheet was "arrive early if you want to have breakfast. Dress appropriately for extreme weather." Lisa White and Claudia Eastman worked as location managers on this episode and Larry Ballard as set medic on location.
