A price was the amount of money that someone had to pay in order to buy an item.
In 2266, Captain James T. Kirk was authorized to pay an equitable price for six lithium crystals from the Rigel XII miners. As the miners were opposed to a sale, as they instead preferred a swap, no payment was offered for the crystals and they were obtained by other means. (TOS: "Mudd's Women")
