Prior to 2371, Jones fought against a Cardassian gul named Tulet. Jones won the match after twenty-three rounds in an event which became known as "The Knockout in the Neutral Zone". One of those who witnessed the event was Chakotay, who believed it to be "the best match" he ever saw. The Doctor, who had a disdain for recreational fisticuffs, asked whether Jones had driven Tulet's nasal bone into his brain. ((VOY: "The Fight")
