Spaceflight Chronology starchart 1

Star Chart 1: The location of Alpha Centauri C

Proxima Centauri (Alpha Centauri C) was a stellar companion of Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B. The star was located near Sol, Sirius, and Tau Ceti. This star had a planetary system of its own with a settlement on the Proxima colony. (TNG: "The Naked Now", ENT: "Borderland")

The location of Proxima Centauri was seen in a viewscreen chart displayed by the USS Enterprise-D library computer. (TNG: "The Naked Now", "Lonely Among Us", "Datalore", "Conspiracy")

In the 24th century, Proxima Centauri was home to Starfleet's Proxima Maintenance Yards. Under the command of Admiral Drazman in 2371, Commander Benjamin Sisko, Doctor Julian Bashir and Lt. Jadzia Dax planned to visit the Yards in that year. (DS9: "Past Tense, Part I"). It was also home to the Proxima Centauri Interplanetary Bowling League. (TNG: "The Schizoid Man")

The Federation starship USS Proxima was named for this system.

Background

In a scene apparently cut from TOS: "Wolf in the Fold", a reference was made to Alpha Proxima II, that was later replaced in the dialog, but survived in numerous subsequent references. It was likely, if indeed this planet existed as it appears to have intended to in the original reference, it would have been the location of yet another colony, or possibly an alternate name for the Proxima colony.

Star Chart 1

This chart naming stars within 20 light years of Sol was drawn by Rick Sternbach for the Star Trek Spaceflight Chronology in the late 1970s. Found on page 77, this chart showed Earth commercial and exploration routes after the use of warp drive began. There were no commercial or exploration routes to Alpha Centauri C.

Star Trek: Star Charts

Alpha Centauri (Proxima) was located in the Alpha Centauri Sector (Sector 002). This star sector was located in the Beta Quadrant. The primary was a G-class star. Magnitude of this star was +3, 10 times brighter than Sol. The stellar companions were a M-class star and a K-class star. In 2120, Zefram Cochrane departed from this system on his final flight. In the mid-22nd century, this system was named as a stop on the Earth trade routes. By 2378, Alpha Centauri (Proxima) was a Federation system, with at least one member planet. (Pages 19, 35, 45, 60, & United Federation of Planets I) According to the Star Trek: Star Charts, by Geoffrey Mandel,
