Qa'vak was a traditional Klingon test of skill. It was normally done in preparation for the Klingon hunt ritual, which reminded Klingons of where they came from.

The qa'vak involved two Klingons, a half-meter hoop and a spear. One individual rolled the hoop away from the group. The individual being tested would attempt to throw a spear through the hoop while rolling. When successful, the Klingon would shout ka'al!. A useful technique for throwing the spear would be to use the non-throwing hand as a guide for aim.

In 2369, during his visit on Carraya IV, Worf demonstrated the correct execution of this test to the Klingon children and explained the ritualistic nature of the hunt. (TNG: "Birthright, Part II")
