The Qo'noS system was an inhabited planetary system in the Qo'noS sector, Beta Quadrant. In the 32nd century, the system was located in the Klingon Zone.

In an alternate reality, the system was located in the Omega Leonis sector block.

This was the home system of the Klingons and the capital system of their Klingon Empire. (TNG: "Sins of The Father"; Star Trek Into Darkness display graphic [1]; DIS: "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad", "Scavengers")

Components[]

Stellar system[]

This was a single star system. The primary was a K-type star. (TNG: "Redemption")

Planetary system[]

In this system, there were at least three planets, including Qo'noS III, which was the homeworld of the Klingons and the capital planet of their empire. This planet was located in the system's habitable zone. (Star Trek Into Darkness display graphic [2]; PRO: "Supernova, Part 1")

Stellar cartography[]

An NX-class starship could reach the system from Earth in four days at warp 4.5. (ENT: "Broken Bow")

In 2257, the system's location was labeled on the star chart showing the trajectory of Lieutenant Spock's shuttle. (DIS: "An Obol for Charon")

In 2258, the system's location was labeled on a star chart seen on the main viewscreen of the USS Enterprise. (DIS: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2")

In 2259, the location of this system was labeled on a stellar cartography chart that was seen on the USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen. This system's symbol was a red Klingon Empire logo, indicating its affiliation with the empire. The large size of the symbol indicated the system's status as the capital system of the empire. (SNW: "Strange New Worlds", "Spock Amok")

On stardate 1292.4, this system's position was labeled in a chart used during a Section 31 Alpha Team briefing. (Star Trek: Section 31)

In 2399, its location was labeled on a Federation star chart that was in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Headquarters. (PIC: "Maps and Legends")

Background information[]

The primary of the system was first seen in TNG: "Redemption" as the USS Enterprise-D and IKS Bortas approached Qo'noS.

An alternate name for the system, the "Klingon system", was used by Kurn, in a cut scene from TNG: "Sins of The Father".

Kronos and Praxis

Qo'noS system, named on the viewscreen graphic

In the display graphic from Star Trek Into Darkness the Qo'noS system was located in the Omega Leonis sector block. Omega Leonis was a real star 112 light years away from Earth. The Qo'noS system was presumably located closer to Earth than that, as the episode Template:Two Days and Two Nights marked the first time a starship from Earth had traveled as far as ninety light years from the Sol system, and Enterprise NX-01 had already visited Qo'noS in the pilot episode of the series. For the most recent star chart from Star Trek: Section 31, the position of the Qo'noS system was moved closer to Sol.

In the Star Trek: Star Charts (pp. 56 & 62) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Stellar Cartography" p. 30; "Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), in 2293, the USS Enterprise-A rendezvoused with the Kronos One in the system. The Qo'noS system was identified as a Klingon system in a star chart created by Scribe K'Tark in the Year of Kahless 893 (2266) for the Klingon High Council. In 2368, the system was on the front line of the Klingon Civil War. (The Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 56) stated Kling was an alternative name for Qo'noS.)

In StarTrek.com, Star Trek Maps [page number?edit], and The Worlds of the Federation [page number?edit], the star was named "Klingon". [3](X)

Apocrypha[]

The star was called "K'lai Klinzhai" in FASA's The Klingons and "K'thar" in Decipher's Worlds.

In the Starfleet Medical Reference Manual, the Klingon homeworld was the planet "Epsilon Sagittarii B". Epsilon Sagittarii was also a real star located 143 light years away from Earth. (citation needededit)

In the Star Trek Maps (Charts A and C), the system had an orange binary star and five planets. The Klingon homeworld was the planet in the system.

Star Trek Online also referred to this system as the Qo'noS system and established that Praxis was one of Qo'noS' moons.
