Rafting was a recreational activity in which a person attempted to navigate a rushing river in a raft designed for doing so.

While surveying an uninhabited planet, Enterprise NX-01's Trip Tucker noted a gorge on the southern continent that was five times deeper than the Grand Canyon. He suggested that he and Jonathan Archer do "a little river rafting" after they were done performing their survey. (ENT: "The Catwalk")

In a deleted scene from Star Trek Generations, Montgomery Scott referenced several daring stunts James T. Kirk had performed, while observing his orbital skydive, including an instance of rafting down lava flows.
