For the illegal occupation, please see raider (occupation).
In starship classification, a raider was any type of vessel designed for, or specialized in, conducting raids on other starships or planets. (TNG: "Gambit, Part I") The term pirate vessel also aptly applies to raiders.
Upon Odo describing the new arrived Miradorn raider to Deep Space 9 in 2369, Quark thought the term to be a misnomer, stating, "Raider? You mean the Miradorn ship that just docked?" Odo again reiterated the term, "raider," and Quark explained that "its reputation, like mine, has probably been exaggerated." (DS9: "Vortex")
