Map of Bajor, 2401

Labeled on a map of Bajor

Rakantha Province was a province on Bajor. Once one of the most productive agricultural lands on the planet, it was poisoned during the Cardassian Occupation and became barren wasteland.

Three residents Rakantha, Ishan Chaye, Jillur Gueta, and Timor Landi, went to Terok Nor in 2366. (DS9: "Things Past")

Following the Occupation, in 2371, the Bajoran Agricultural Ministry developed soil reclamators that could detoxify the soil. During her brief tenure also as First Minister of Bajor, Kai Winn Adami ordered the reclamators be deployed to Rakantha in the hopes of growing cash crops for export, such as boton, moreka, and salam grass. However, the reclamators had already been promised to Dahkur Province, and Winn's attempts to force their early removal nearly led to civil war. (DS9: "Shakaar")

In 2374, instability in the Bajoran wormhole caused by the Reckoning led to widespread flooding in Rakantha, destroying two-thirds of the wheat harvest. (DS9: "The Reckoning")

In 2375, Captain Benjamin Sisko attended a conference in Rakantha Province. (DS9: "Penumbra")

In 2401, Admiral Jean-Luc Picard kept a map of Bajor's major archaeological sites in the study at Château Picard that identified Rakantha Province, including Ilvia, Dakeen Monastery, and nearby archaeological sites in the region. (PIC: "The Star Gazer")

Background information[]

Rakantha Province was labeled in the northern hemisphere on a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine production map of Bajor that Wolfe maintained, as well as a map of Bajor derived from it by Geoffrey Mandel for Star Trek: Star Charts. (p. 42) [1](X) Mandel brought the label forward for a map of archaeological sites created for Star Trek: Picard. [2]
