A recap was a sequence of film shown at the beginning of a serial chapter with the purpose of reminding viewers what had happened in the previous chapters.
The Adventures of Captain Proton made use of recaps. In 2375, Harry Kim noted that he and Tom Paris hadn't burst into flames in the last chapter, and questioned why the recaps were so inaccurate. Paris explained that they brought people back into the theaters. (VOY: "Bride of Chaotica!")
In 1996, Rain Robinson summed up Tom Paris and Tuvok's wild but true tale, saying, "Let's recap. UFO in orbit, laser pistols, people vanishing." (VOY: "Future's End")
