A record keeper is someone who specializes in record-keeping, specifically one who maintains records. Such a person is also called an archivist or a historian.

Starfleet includes records officers among the crews of all its major starships, as TOS: "Court Martial" demonstrates. Benjamin Finney so served under James T. Kirk aboard the USS Enterprise in the 2260s.

In the Mintakan culture, the role of record keeper was an appointed position. Responsibilities included taking measurements of their sun at a sundial.

In 2366, Oji was made record keeper for her people. (TNG: "Who Watches The Watchers")

The Cardassians considered themselves to be meticulous record keepers. In 2370, Garak assured Deela that she ought to be able to find records of Rugal's adoption, contrary to her belief that no such records would even still exist after eight years, due to the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor being in effect at the time. He reminded her that the Cardassians were rather thorough at archiving and that they had taught many planets, including Bajor, how to keep thorough records. (DS9: "Cardassians")
