The Registrar was the attendant who awaited the recently deceased at the entrance to the Ferengi Divine Treasury. If the new arrival was worthy to enter, the Registrar then accepted their bribe and ushered them inside. (DS9: "Body Parts")

The Registrar functioned as a Psychopomp, a common archetype in numerous mythologies. The Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 2, p. 211) compares the Registrar to Charon of Greek mythology, while StarTrek.com compares him to Saint Peter. Kortar fulfills a similar role in Klingon mythology.
