Retinax V was a medication usually prescribed as a treatment for people with age-related vision problems from the 23rd century onward.

Some individuals, such as James T. Kirk, were allergic to this form of medication, and so resorted to wearing "reading glasses" instead. (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)

According to Terry Matalas, the showrunner of Star Trek: Picard, Jean-Luc Picard was also afflicted with an allergy to Retinax. [1]
