Richard

A drawing of Richard

Richard I, also known as Richard the Lion Heart, was a historical figure from Earth history.

USS Enterprise historian Marla McGivers adored Richard and made a painting of him. When Khan visited her quarters in 2267, he recognized Richard, and said McGivers' paintings were of "bold men from the past."

Later McGivers surprised Khan by saying that she knew his identity: the genetically-engineered superman was "Leif Ericson and Richard the Lion Heart and Napoléon." (TOS: "Space Seed")

Star Trek: The Next Generation star Patrick Stewart portrayed Richard the Lionheart in Mel Brooks' 1993 comedy, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, which was in fact a parody of Sean Connery's performance as Richard in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991).
King Richard is also tradionally associated with the tales of Robin Hood, with Robin defending Richard's throne from being usurped by either his brother Prince John, the High Sheriff of Nottingham, or both, while Richard was away fighting the Crusades.
