Robert J. Sawyer (born 29 April 1960; age 65) is a Canadian writer, essayist, journalist, and editor who, with David Gerrold, is a co-editor of Boarding the Enterprise published by Smart Pop in 2006 and re-released in 2016.

In the 1980s, he approached Pocket Books to pitch a Star Trek novel to be titled Armada (entirely unrelated to the Activision video game of the same name released in 2000.) Paramount rejected the book's key premise regarding the origin of life on Earth and requested abbreviation of its religious references. Believing these limitations would compromise the viability of the book, editor Dave Stern ultimately opted to not publish the book. [1]

In addition to his Star Trek works, he is the author of dozens of genre novels, including the book Flashforward which was adapted into a TV series executive produced by Brannon Braga and starring John Cho that aired for the 2009-2010 season.
