Robert Metz (born 22 April 1938; age 87) is a former background actor who played an Enterprise lieutenant in several episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series. He also played the character's mirror universe counterpart in the second season episode "Mirror, Mirror". As a background performer, he was not credited for his appearances.

Metz played professional minor league baseball as a catcher for the California League Modesto Reds, a New York Yankees affiliated baseball team, for the 1960 and 1961 seasons. [1]

By 1964, Metz began teaching full-time while making sporadic appearances on Star Trek through all three seasons. Metz later served as principal of Mission Viejo High School in Mission Viejo, Orange County, California, in the 1980s and 1990s. [2] [3] The school currently has a Bob Metz Scholarship which is awarded to students with the most improved GPA each year. [4]

In 2008, Metz came out of retirement to serve as interim principal of Trabuco Hills High School in Mission Viejo. [5]
