Ronald Altman Bryce was a male Human Starfleet communications officer who served on the USS Discovery in the mid-23rd century.

Starfleet career[]

Bryce attended Starfleet Academy in San Francisco, and had fond memories of studying under a particular tree. (DIS: "People of Earth")

During the Federation-Klingon War, Bryce was the pilot of the shuttle Disco 1 that transported the boarding party of Michael Burnham, Paul Stamets, Ellen Landry, and Sylvia Tilly aboard the USS Glenn. (DIS: "Context Is for Kings")

When Harcourt Fenton Mudd attempted to take over the Discovery using a time loop, he was on the bridge at the communications officer post. When he attempted to stop the criminal, Mudd disparagingly called him "random communications officer-man". (DIS: "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad")

In 2257, in recognition for his role in ending the Federation-Klingon War, Bryce was awarded the Starfleet Medal of Honor. (DIS: "Will You Take My Hand?")

Bryce was also heard speaking Welsh when the universal translator malfunctioned due to contact with a mysterious sphere. (DIS: "An Obol for Charon")

Bryce was among the crewmembers who volunteered to stay on the Discovery and accompany Michael Burnham into the 32nd century, with no chance of return. He was presumed dead by Starfleet afterwards, based on the testimonies of the USS Enterprise senior officers. (DIS: "Such Sweet Sorrow", "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2")

Sometime later, Bryce was promoted to Lieutenant commander and was assigned to the USS Curie and his post as communications officer was temporarily filled by Lieutenant Christopher. (DIS: "Kobayashi Maru")

Personal interests[]

One of Bryce's hobbies was kitesurfing, in which he specifically remembered surfing the biggest surf breaks on Manark IV. (DIS: "Anomaly (DIS)")
