Ronald Roose (24 December 1945 – 15 September 2021; age 75) was a former Hollywood film editor who, along with William Hoy, is credited with editing Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Roose had previously worked with Star Trek VI writer/director Nicholas Meyer as an editor on the films Volunteers (1985) and Company Business (1991, starring Terry O'Quinn and Kurtwood Smith). They later collaborated on the 1999 HBO movie Vendetta, which starred Clancy Brown, Bruce Davison, and Richard Libertini.
Roose began his Hollywood career as a lighting technician before becoming an assistant editor under Dede Allen on the films Serpico (1973) and Night Moves (1975, starring Kenneth Mars and Harris Yulin). Roose then tried his hand at sound editing on 1978's The Wiz (again with Dede Allen as senior film editor) before becoming a lead film editor on the 1979 film The Wanderers.
Roose went on to edit the films The World According to Garp (1982), Easy Money (1983), Hoffa (1992, starring Natalia Nogulich and Paul Guilfoyle), The Next Karate Kid (1994), House Arrest (1996, featuring Christopher McDonald, Daniel Roebuck, Wallace Shawn, and Ray Walston), Almost Heroes (1998, featuring Hamilton Camp), and Whatever It Takes (2000). He also edited episodes of the hit series The Equalizer and was a sound editor on The Princess Bride (1987, starring Chris Sarandon, Carol Kane and Wallace Shawn). In addition, Roose received story credit in Collateral Damage (2002).
Roose died 15 September 2021 from Parkinson's Disease. [1]
