Spaceflight Chronology starchart 1

Star chart of surrounding area

Ross 248 is a star located about 10.3 light years from Sol.

On several occasions in 2364, viewscreen readouts aboard the USS Enterprise-D showed the location of Ross 248 in the form of star charts from the Enterprise library computer. (TNG: "The Naked Now", "The Last Outpost", "Conspiracy")

Background

The Enterprise computer's star chart was a drawing by Rick Sternbach that had originally been published, years earlier, on page 77 of the non-canon reference book Spaceflight Chronology. This chart showed Earth commercial and exploration routes after the use of warp drive began. Ross 248 was not a destination on any of the routes.

Ross 248 is a real star in the constellation Andromeda. Modern scientists have determined it is spectral class M5.5eV.
