The Ross class was a type of Federation starship that was in operation with Starfleet in the early 25th century.

History[]

The Ross class was a starship class in operation by Starfleet in 2401. It bore a strong resemblance to the Galaxy-class but with an enlarged secondary hull design, built around a large, rather unwieldly deflector dish, and featured components and technology from more recent designs, such as the Sovereign-class.

In 2401, two ships of this class were present in the fleet assembled to confront the Borg vessel Singularity, and in conjunction with the Borg vessel, were able to defend against a large burst of energy that had threatened the sector. (PIC: "The Star Gazer")

Later, in April 2401, ten ships of this class took part in Frontier Day celebrations near Sol Station, where they were hijacked by their younger crews after they came under the direct control of the Borg Collective. Many ships were left derelict in orbit following the fleet's liberation. (PIC: "Vox", "The Last Generation")

Command and control systems[]

By 2401, the computer systems on board the class had been built to include the Fleet formation mode, also known as Starfleet emergency protocol NX12.11, designed to place all Federation starships within a fleet under the automated control of the Starfleet mainframe. (PIC: "Võx")

The Ross class was designed by Thomas Marrone for the videogame Star Trek Online and was launched as part of the game's 10th anniversary in 2020. The concept was developed in collaboration with The Streampunks RPG Group for their Star Trek Adventures actual play campaign, Clear Skies. [1] Its television debut in Star Trek: Picard season 2 came alongside three other Star Trek Online ship classes, the Gagarin-class, Reliant-class, and Sutherland-class. [2] [3]

The class is named after Mary Golda Ross, the first known Native American female engineer, and the first female engineer in the history of Lockheed. [4]
