Real world article
(written from a production point of view)
Roy Orbison (23 April 1936 – 6 December 1988; age 52) was given credit as the performer of "Ooby Dooby" in Star Trek: First Contact. Furthermore, the use of the performance was granted courtesy of his production company, Orbison Records, Inc..
In real life, Orbison was a Star Trek fan, and often opened his concerts with his band jamming to Star Trek: The Original Series' theme by Alexander Courage. [1]
The Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "The Forsaken" was originally titled "Only the Lonely" after Orbison's song. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, p. 58)
