The Submarine Service was the British Royal Navy's service responsible for operating submarines.
In 2152, Malcolm Reed recalled a story about a great-uncle of his who suffered from aquaphobia, or more precisely: a fear of drowning, which Reed also suffered from. Reed's great-uncle faced his fears and joined the Royal Navy before signing up with the Submarine Service, where he worked his way up through the ranks and became chief engineer of HMS Clement. The Clement later hit a mine left over from one of Earth's world wars and became trapped underneath an ice shelf before flooding and sinking. (ENT: "Minefield")
