The Sabrerunner class was a class of Federation starship that was in service with Starfleet during the latter half of the 24th century.

History[]

In 2381, one ship from this class, the USS Passaro, which was described by Beckett Mariner as an "old tub", had been stolen by Nick Locarno, and hidden away in the Detrion system, where it was incorporated into his "Nova Fleet". The top port side of the saucer had been re-painted red, and adorned with the star of the Kolvoord Starburst. Mariner was able to reclaim the vessel and attempted to use it as a means of escape from the Detrion system, but quickly found herself trapped in the system due to the Trynar shield, forcing her to evade Nova Fleet within the system. The vessel was ultimately destroyed when Mariner set off the Genesis Device she brought onboard and Locarno's attempt to disarm the device was thwarted by a paywall. (LD: "Old Friends, New Planets")

Technical data[]

Physical arrangement[]

This class featured the same basic design as the Steamrunner-class, but was smaller and more compact in form. Ships of the Sabrerunner-class featured a near oval shaped saucer section, and a detached secondary hull, but was joined at the aft to the ship's nacelles. The nacelles themselves were directly attached to the saucer section by large cowlings, which housed the Bussard collectors. The ship's deflector dish was housed in the rear, on the detached secondary hull, while the bridge module was inset between the Bussard cowlings. (LD: "Old Friends, New Planets")

Tactical systems[]

The Sabrerunner-class ships featured Phaser arrays and Photon torpedo launchers typical of the period. At least one ship, the USS Passaro (NCC-52670), had four photon torpedo launchers total, with two in the front of the saucer, and two on the back end of the deflector pod. Interior design[]

Main bridge[]

The main bridge on the class sits atop the saucer section, wedged in between the nacelle/bussard cowlings, offering some protection for the crew. The bridge itself was arranged in typical layout, offering two consoles up front for helm and conn, three command chairs in the middle to oversee bridge operations, and consoles in the rear for accessing other key systems. It featured warmer colors, and aqua themed LCARS interfaces. The captain's chair featured a small pull out LCARS interface and manual steering column for direct control over the ship; this, combined with the main computer, allowed the captain alone to control the entire ship. Background information[]

The class name comes from showrunner Brad Winters, who noted the Sabrerunner-class combines "Steamrunner aesthetics at a Saber-class size." [1]

Former Star Trek: Picard Research Assistent Jörg Hillebrand has confirmed the class on his Twitter account as being a scaled-down adaptation of the Steamrunner-class CGI model, as built by Fabio Passaro (with whom Hillebrand had worked on several starship-related projects before [2]) for the Eaglemoss Collections publications [3] – and which had been the one featured in the Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 2, p. 325.

According to the episode's audio description however, this was still a Steamrunner-class starship.
