A salary was a fixed amount of money paid to a worker, usually calculated on a monthly or annual basis, not hourly, as wages.

In 1930, James T. Kirk told fellow time traveler Spock that he had spent nine tenths of their combined salaries for the last three days on filling orders for his project (the remaining one tenth going towards groceries) and that it was therefore unlikely he would be able to bring the Vulcan any precious metals such as silver, gold, or platinum any time soon. (TOS: "The City on the Edge of Forever")

After burning off the floor plates to access Quark's latinum floor vault, Rom spent his own salary to replace them. (DS9: "Necessary Evil")

In 2371, when business was bad, Quark threatened to make cutbacks to the running of Quark's, starting with Rom's salary, which would be reduced to zero. (DS9: "The House of Quark")

In 2372, Quark cut his employees' salaries by a third due to decreased business during the Bajoran Time of Cleansing, without warning and no guarantee they would go up again after the event was over. (DS9: "Bar Association")

In 2373, Rom released his fiancée Leeta from having to sign a Waiver of Property and Profit by donating all his latinum to the Bajoran War Orphans Fund, saying they had their love, all they needed. She agreed, adding her salary from Quark's. (DS9: "Ferengi Love Songs")

In 2374, Damar asked for a 2327 vintage of kanar, adding, when told it was expensive, that he could afford it on a gul's salary. (DS9: "Behind the Lines")

In 2375, Miles O'Brien noted the steady salary increases for Morica Bilby, a "shipping consultant". Later, Janel Tigan explained that Thadial Bokar arranged it. Later, Morica complained about the salary not being enough to live on, after which she eventually was murdered. (DS9: "Prodigal Daughter")
